cost of the color copy machines/printer toner/paper is handled by the company on
a page count basis and we don’t want staff printing their vacation/kitty

color:#1F497D'>I am curious as to why you have your printers locked down so. We
only have a couple of “local” printers. The rest are network
printers (IP addresses assigned. The Patron boxes print to the HP 4050 behind
the circ desk and staff have access to printers at the branches as well as the
Dir, Assist Dir, and Tech offices. We have had no problems at all with this
arrangement. When we had printers connected directly to the patron computers, I
was constantly working on them. Since I setup the networked printers, I very
rarely have to do anything to them.<o:p></o:p></span></p>

use a lot of networked printers but we have several color copiers that can be
used for our Admin staff to print to. We use a Windows Print server and share
them. We set up access security via the security properties tab and
create groups for certain printers and just add the group. We use locked
mandatory profiles and only admins can install printers on the workstation.
We install the networked printers on workstations for our users on an as needed
basis. We have the good fortune that most of our staff at least have a local
printer so it is not a big undertaking managing them. <o:p></o:p></span></p>

Active Directory to make these "discoverable" via the Windows Add

If not, how do you manage these from a staff perspective? Windows shares?
