<pre class="moz-signature" cols="72">Good Morning,
Our printers are all networked and this has been working fine for us for many years. We did, however, purchase and install LPT:One Print Manager (Envisionware)last August to help manage the costs of patron use. This has been working well for us. We have both an HP LJ 4050 and an HP ColorLJ 3700 used by patrons. We have the default set to the black & white, but patrons can choose the color if they want. They have to pay at the Circ desk first before the print job is released. We feel this has really cut down on wasted paper & ink, as well as making sure payment is made for usage, and we have less problems with the printers.

Hi Eric,
<br>
<br>
We don't use AD or anything else like that to manage our printers for
our 80 or so computers. For network printers, we just add a port on
each computer that's going to use the printer. For shared local
printers, I have a script on every computer that adds the shared
printer near that computer (if any - the script is all commented out on
some computers) and makes it the default printer; this is just for
staff; the script is a logon script in a staff group policy.
<br>
<br>
We're going to start using CASSIE for public print management soon.
Also, we're going to start allowing staff from some departments to
print to our networked Toshiba color copier, which has its own software
for tracking use by department and logging each print job (username and
filename or URL).
