Yeah, I am in total agreement with you Chad on the blown capacitors in regards to Dell being a victim as well. I don't (and won't) hold it against them.

Like I mentioned in an earlier part of the thread, we have only had a handful of these out of 18 or so used by staff over the last 3-4 years and Dell was very prompt about replacing those that did pop. I personally feel that their customer service stance on this was spot on, but I know others where not as happy with the scenario.
Regarding replacing the motherboards: That could have been the global
issue with bad capacitors. The time period is right. There was a
several year period when a multitude of capacitor makers were using a
bad electrolyte formula that caused capacitors to fail prematurely.
(Corporate espionage at its finest!) The bad caps were in everything
electronic and could have easily been why you had to replace so many
mainboards. If that's what happened with your Dells, I wouldn't hold it
against them. Dell was as much a victim as you were in this case.
Just a thought.
Thanks for the reply. We've had similar experiences with the early SX
280s used by staff here, but we also have a couple of 18 month old 745s
seem to be fairing pretty well so far.
Still, that form factor is pretty attractive if you're ordering Dell.
We have had Dell Optiplex small form factors for about 7 years. My only
warning would be that 75% of the motherboards ended up having to be
replaced.
