color:#1F497D'>Our patrons wouldn’t know what to do with a program like GiMP –
they have enough problems creating email accounts. I’ve only had one patron (in
two years) that would have benefited from GiMP but he made due with Windows 7
Paint. A lot of the tech savvy Patrons bring their own laptops in and use their
own software. Our public computers are mainly used for Facebook and other
social network sites but if the demand for a photo editor arises, I will
probably lean towards Photoshop.<br>

my knowledge its hardly used.<br>

I have to disagree about paint.NET. It's a bit easier to use than
GIMP. I don't have a PhotoShop background so GIMPs learning curve is
VERTICAL. *not* intuitive, in my book.<br>
<br>
But as far as having it available - it's free, VERY powerful, VERY flexible,
and definitely worth the install. (I full endorse GIMP... just can't used
the damned thing to great success, myself).) Upgrades/patches are not a big
deal - install it and forget it, so management is easy.<br>

Now... training patrons on how to use it, on the other hand...<br>

used to install it as a matter of course as well & like you, I haven’t much
lately. We have MS Office on all of our patron pcs & it has a photo editor
(Photo Manager in MS Office Tools) that is pretty brainless to use for average
user. It is definitely not a Photoshop replacement but works (especially to

patron-computer friendly. I used to install it on patron computers as a matter
of course, but haven't so much lately. Mostly just because it caters to a
pretty specific audience: people that want to do advanced graphics
editing (retouching photos...things of that nature). For the very casual photo
editing, some of the other programs out there might be a little easier to use
for novice users. Gimp is very powerful, but has a steeper learning curve in my
opinion.<o:p></o:p></p>
