<div>For staff printing we are still using an HP 4050TN monochrome laser jet printer from the original Gates grant. It has required no service for twelve years. Although it is still printing decently, it has started to make some noise. Not a grinding noise - more like a knocking noise while printing. There is also a slight shadow appearing on one side of the finished print. I have located maintenance kits and found that they cost from $129 - $175.00. I would do the work myself rather than pay $95 per hour to the local printer repair shop.</div>

<div>My question:</div>
<div>Is it worth getting the maintenance kit for the workhorse HP4050, or should we just buy a new printer? For $200 or less we can get a new monochrome network printer, but I doubt it will be the dependable beast this one has been.</div>

<div>Thoughts, advice? I still have a couple of toner cartridges I'd like to use up before this printer totally dies. </div>
