I've used KeePass for years for my own password manager. It a FOSS password manager. It can share a database between multiple users, according to this. However, I haven't done that myself, so YMMV.

Actually, I lied a little bit. I used KeePass for years when I was running Windows on my computer. Now I'm running Manjaro linux and using KeePassXC (KeePass Cross-Platform Community Edition). But it's still using the exact same KeePass database. Semantics.

I'm not sure I'd necessarily foist KeePass upon general staff, though. It's pretty powerful and has useful features (like history of changes, which you'd definitely want with multiple users). Useful features and power are fine for a power user, but would probably just confuse the general staff. There seem to be quite a few password managers, add-ons/extensions, phone apps, etc. that use the same KeePass database, however. So maybe there's something out there that provides a simple UI for the "simple" folk. It might be worth digging/Googling around to learn a little bit about it. Some places to start:

https://keepass.info/

https://keepassxc.org/

Maybe it'll help you; maybe it won't. Either way, good luck!

Chad

______________________________
Chad Neeper
Senior Systems Engineer

Level 9 Networks
740-548-8070 (voice)
866-214-6607 (fax)

Full IT/Computer consulting services -- Specialized in public libraries

On Tue, Nov 12, 2019 at 2:56 PM Phil Shirley via OPLINTECH <oplintech@lists.oplin.org> wrote:

Does your library use a password manager for staff? If so, could
you share some details like which product, whether all staff have
it, how you like it, whether you got some sort of discount, etc.?

It seems like this would be a very useful thing because of all
the passwords people have to manage, plus the need to share
passwords with groups (we try to minimize shared local accounts of
course, but there's always social media, etc.). It would be nice
to be able to easily and securely give a new employee access to
the shared passwords they need, or to share password changes
securely, or to allow staff the option to have an app on their
phone to store things like their Windows password. This would give
people an alternative to writing down passwords on post-its, in
email, in procedure manuals, etc.
