<html><body><div style="font-family: Arial; font-size: 12pt; color: #000000"><div><span name="x"></span><div>This is the text of an email sent out this fall, but it's worth repeating again, because I have noticed that this problem has actually gotten <em>worse</em> on a number of websites. <em>Remember, this is not just an issue for those who are blind or visually impaired, but for people visiting your sites on mobile devices</em>. Please re-consider the size of images and what kinds of images you are posting on your website.<br></div><div><br></div><div><strong><em>Recently, we've noticed that some libraries have started putting images that look like scans of entire posters or brochures on their site homepages. Just a gentle reminder that, even if you're using the alternative text field with these images (and you should be!), the vast majority of what is in these images is inaccessible to people who are blind or visually impaired, using screen readers. Additionally, in many cases, the text is too small for many users to read (or want to take the time to try to read). Although it takes more time, please make the effort to type the text into your site, rather than just paste an image of the poster/brochure.
