Luminous: Living Things That Light Up the Night is an absorbing and visually stunning picture book that introduces readers to the phenomenon of bioluminescence through the adventures of a mother and child discovering foxfire on the forest floor,
exploring a cave full of glowworms, and diving into the ocean depths. The CTRO Advisory Council characterized
Luminous as “lovely narrative nonfiction that engages and entices readers to wonder while they learn,” praised the captivating and informative illustrations, and appreciated that scientific explanations are integrated into the page spreads of
the story, rather than being relegated to back matter.
