Several of us had the same thought that this is more likely to have happened in cargo than a rubber band. There have been cargo bags found buried in the snow outside and bags just laying in the parking lot that never made in into the building for delivery for whatever reason. Usually happens once a month or so.

This could have happened while in delivery. We have had several items that were packaged correctly, but during the delivery process became damaged.

Sometimes the package is completely empty and we find a random book in the bin all by itself.

We just received this item (see attachments), and a few others (just bent, not mangled) in our shipment today. We've only had this book since November 2020. It's a shame that it's been damaged this badly after only 4 circulations.

I know we are all busy, and can sometimes get in a hurry to do the shipment. Out of respect for other library's property, though, we should try to be more careful,. We often receive items that are bound too tightly, and books or AV items get broken, bent, warped, etc. Rubber bands only stretch so far. :)
