[Digihubsadmin] Apply to be a DPLA Hub!

I'm afraid that both Meghan and I are fully committed on both days and this can't be rescheduled — we could possibly do 7 am to 9 or 4:30 pm to 6:30 pm on either day, but otherwise it's a wash.

Any chance of a Doodle poll that could find a two hour block on another day? Unfortunately, the 10-12 are also out of the question for us both, it's our quarterly directors meetings.

DPLA today released the application process for becoming a hub. See below for more information about the application process. The turnaround time on this is short but there is an interest from DPLA in having Ohio involved this time. While there have been lots of conversations, it is time for us to all come together and talk through some ideas for how an Ohio hub would work.

Here is a summary of some of the conversations to date. First, DPLA wants there to be one metadata feed from Ohio. We cannot all apply separately or create multiple feeds. That being said, we can create multiple processes for getting metadata into the feed, which we may decide to divide along the lines of institution types, geographical regions or another organizing system. Basically, we need to develop a collaborative process for everyone to be involved.

I am trying to pull together a meeting for December 16th or 17th for everyone to talk about the process. If I haven’t already talked with you, please send me your availability for those two days. Ideally, a two-hour time block would be best. Participants can attend by phone or in person. (I would recommend phone for those in areas outside of Columbus since Ohio weather is so unpredictable this time of year).

The Digital Public Library of America seeks applicants to serve as Service Hubs and Content Hubs in our growing national network. The applications and corresponding instructions are available from the links below.

Service Hubs and Content Hubs come in a variety of shapes and sizes, and play a vital role in the DPLA network as community builders, metadata contributors, representatives of their local collaboratives, and on-ramps to participation in DPLA for over 1,200 partner institutions. These cultural heritage institutions are located in approximately one-third of the United States. This application process will allow DPLA to continue to advance our goal of creating a pathway for participation in all fifty states and the District of Columbia by 2017.

The deadline for submission is Friday, January 16, 2015. Applicants will be notified of their selection by Monday, February 16, 2015, and will be expected to begin working with DPLA staff immediately following the February announcement to formalize the partnership and begin the process of harvesting metadata.
