[DPLAsteering] FW: Announcing our fourth class of DPLA Community Reps

I agree with Angela and Missy -- keeping in touch with them via the current community reps makes perfect sense, but we are focused on creating and making the content as accessible as possible, which is a different workflow and advocacy path, at least at this point.

I would agree with Angela. Prior to DPLA Ohio, our three Ohio community reps “talked up” and explained DPLA. My suggestion would be to have the three current community reps contact and welcome the new reps. Since all three current reps are on the Steering Committee they can provide them background to the project. If the Advocacy Working Group was not disbanding, bringing the new community reps onto that group would have made sense. But I don’t see them with a CEC function.

I’ve been thinking about this and here are my two cents. Because the DPLA Rep program is typically a one-year commitment and people come from a variety of organizations/affiliations, I do not think they should have an official role with the CEC’s. They should know about what we are doing to build a service hub in the state and where to send people. I think DPLA envisions their role to be broader than the service hubs and more focused on outreach for DPLA in general. Here is what Community Reps are signing up for when they apply: http://dp.la/info/get-involved/reps/page/3/ It specifically says that Reps are “not involved with the recruitment, aggregation, or digitization of new content.”

I am not trying to be exclusionary; I just think this could cause a lot of confusion in roles. Again, I think the Reps should be aware of our project/program so that they can talk about it but that we should keep their official role separate from our CEC structure.

I suggest we contact them now and involve them somehow (even if just on the dplaohio mailing list) in DPLA-Ohio.

But who should contact them? Me, Angela, and Missy? or the current Community Reps?

I see the current our reps for Ohio (Jillian, Shannon and Katy), have been joined by:

* Amy Johnson Crow (professional genealogist) - not sure what part of the state

* Tracy “Tre” Isaac - Cleveland (I think)

*        Holly Witchey (WRHS/CWRU) - Cleveland

We are extremely excited to introduce and welcome our fourth class of DPLA Community Reps–-volunteers who engage their local communities by leading DPLA outreach activities. We received a great response to our fourth call for applicants, and we’re pleased to now add another fantastic group of Community Reps to our outstanding and dedicated corps of volunteers from the first three classes.<http://us4.list-manage1.com/track/click?u=e1490d1305c4b651f3ad0ace4&id=dc398170db&e=5248247d23>
Our fourth class continues our success at bringing together volunteers from all over the US representing diverse fields and backgrounds. Our newest reps work in K-12 schools, public libraries, state libraries, municipal archives, public history and museums, technology, genealogy, education technology, and many areas of higher education. This round we are excited to have a very strong cohort of educators as well as representation from diverse disciplines including psychology, social work, art history, and studio art.<http://us4.list-manage1.com/track/click?u=e1490d1305c4b651f3ad0ace4&id=dc398170db&e=5248247d23>
