From mlodge at library.ohio.gov Wed Oct 5 08:20:40 2016 From: mlodge at library.ohio.gov (mlodge at library.ohio.gov) Date: Wed, 5 Oct 2016 12:20:40 +0000 Subject: [DPLAsteering] DPLA application References: Message-ID: Good Morning: Beverly and I had a conference call October 4 with Kelsey, Emily, and Gretchen from DPLA. A week or so ago we had received an email requesting the conference call along with some questions regarding our application. A special thank you goes to Nathan who sat in on the call because there were a technology questions and we wanted to make sure someone was on the call who could address those. Ohio is now an approved DPLA Service Hub! And, that is all at this point. The DPLA staff indicated that in a change of policy they are no longer making big announcements when Hubs are approved because it is often 6 - 9 months from approval until the first ingest. Their new process is to wait until a Hub has content in DPLA before making a formal announcement. Additionally, the DPLA website will now only list Hubs that have content available, not all Hubs that are approved. The State Library will be following the DPLA approach. In the next week or so we will be sending out a press release indicating that we have been accepted as a DPLA Service Hub - this will let the Ohio library community know this phase is completed, generate buzz and excitement about DPLA, and to assist us in recruiting members for the working groups, advisory council, and staff positions once they are posted. Over the next week, I'll be reaching out to Working Group Chairs and CEC Representatives from the Executive Committee so we can start populating working groups and the Advisory Council. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me. Thank you for all you have done in helping make the Service Hub a reality and I look forward to working with you moving forward. Here we go... -- Stephen 614-728-5250 On Wed, Oct 5, 2016 at 8:20 AM, mlodge at library.ohio.gov > wrote: Good Morning: Beverly and I had a conference call October 4 with Kelsey, Emily, and Gretchen from DPLA. The DPLA staff indicated that in a change of policy they are no longer making big announcements when Hubs are approved because it is often 6 – 9 months from approval until the first ingest. Their new process is to wait until a Hub has content in DPLA before making a formal announcement. Additionally, the DPLA website will now only list Hubs that have content available, not all Hubs that are approved. The State Library will be following the DPLA approach. In the next week or so we will be sending out a press release indicating that we have been accepted as a DPLA Service Hub – this will let the Ohio library community know this phase is completed, generate buzz and excitement about DPLA, and to assist us in recruiting members for the working groups, advisory council, and staff positions once they are posted. Over the next week, I’ll be reaching out to Working Group Chairs and CEC Representatives from the Executive Committee so we can start populating working groups and the Advisory Council. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me. Thank you for all you have done in helping make the Service Hub a reality and I look forward to working with you moving forward.
