The Ohio State University Medical Center is pleased to announce the May 2006
opening of the William G. Myers, MD, PhD Collection. On May 25, 2006, as
part of the opening festivities, the Medical Heritage Center and the
Department of Radiation Oncology at The Ohio State University will present
Henry Wagner MD, long-time associate of Myers, nuclear medicine history
scholar, and author of Atoms for Life: A Personal History of Nuclear
Medicine. Dr. Wagner will lecture on the history of nuclear medicine and
Myers's role in that history. The lecture will be accompanied two exhibits:
a Myers exhibit using materials from the Myers Collection that detail his
life and the national traveling exhibit Atoms for Peace from the National
Atomic Museum. The reception will begin at 4PM with the lecture at 4:30PM.
Please RSVP to (614) 292-3275 or charlesworth-mil.1 at osu.edu by May 5, 2006.
For more information on that event or the collection, please contact the
Myers archivist Mary Manning MA, MLIS at manning.84 at osu.edu or 614-292-9966.

Myers was a pioneer in the field of nuclear medicine. His contributions to
the profession include the development of radioactive gold seeds for
interstitial therapy and the introduction of more radioisotopes (eleven)
into nuclear medicine than any other individual. For his continuing role as
champion of the cyclotron, he was aptly called the "godfather of the
cyclotron."
Highlights of the Myers collection include:
. Photographs of and correspondence between Myers and other
founders of nuclear medicine, such as Paul Aebersold, John Lawrence, Rosalyn
S. Yalow, Hal Anger, Irene Curie, and Nobel prize winners Rosalyn S. Yalow
and Glen T.Seaborg.
. Correspondence from Myers to his newly-wed wife describing his
experience as a radiation monitor during Operation Crossroads.
. Unique photographs of early and experimental nuclear equipment,
including early scintillation cameras and cyclotrons.

The collection opening will be accompanied by an exhibit and other public
programs that will enhance awareness of its availability for research. The
MHC's website will feature a Myers virtual exhibit and a new MHC digital
library with the Myers Collection serving as the pilot collection. For
future access to these digital resources or to find out more about the
