A panel of experts from around the country will discuss open government and secrecy - the problems confronted, the impacts on communities, and what the public can do.

Why: Protecting public access to government information is important
The program is free and open to the public. The local panel discussion will begin at 2:40 p.m. and will be webcast at:

Panelists for the satellite broadcast include Thomas S. Blanton , director of the National Security Archive at The George Washington University in Washington D.C.; Thomas M. Susman, partner, Ropes & Gray, Washington, D.C.; and Barbara Petersen , executive director, Florida First Amendment Foundation. The session will be moderated by Geneva Overholser, who holds an endowed chair in the Missouri School of Journalism's Washington program.
Local panelists are Doug Clifton, editor of The Plain Dealer, Cleveland; Raimund Goerler, University Archivist, The Ohio State University; and David Marburger partner, Baker & Hostetler, Cleveland. The panel will be moderated by Peter <http://www.moritzlaw.osu.edu/faculty/facultyprofiles/shane.html> M. Shane, Joseph S. Platt/Porter Wright Morris & Arthur Professor of Law and director of the Center for Interdisciplinary Law and Policy Studies at the Moritz College of Law.
This event is hosted by the Moritz Law Library and the Center for Interdisciplinary Law and Policy Studies at The Ohio State University Moritz College of Law.
During Sunshine Week 2006, March 12-18, media organizations, civic groups, libraries, schools, non-profit organizations and others nationwide will participate in coverage of and discussions about the importance of protecting public access to government information. The intent of Sunshine Week is to raise awareness of the importance of open government to the public. Sponsors of this national event include the American Association of Law Libraries, American Library Association, American Society of Newspaper Editors, Sunshine Week, Association of Research Libraries, Coalition of Journalists for Open Government, League of Women Voters, National Freedom of Information Coalition, OpenTheGovernment.org and The Special Libraries Association.
