NAGARA (the National Association of Government Archivists and Records
Administrators) is pleased to announce a grant opportunity to local, state,
and federal government offices for scanning historical records with
genealogical value. Check out the details on the NAGARA home page
http://www.nagara.org/. It is not necessary to be at the conference to
win, but applications are due May 31, 2008. Everything you need to know in
order to apply (including who to contact for questions) is available at the
web page.

For the first time ever, valuable grants will be awarded at NAGARA's
plenary session, held on July 24th. These grants are made possible through
the generosity of The Genealogical Society of Utah (known as "FamilySearch"
on the Internet) and The Generations Network (known as "Ancestry.com" on
the Internet).

Any local, state or Federal government entity holding historic records is
eligible to apply for these grants. It is not required to be present at
the Conference to win.

An as-yet-unknown number of awards will be made totaling up to the number
of digitized images specified in the "2008 NAGARA Grant Details"
document. You may submit only one application, but it may consist of
multiple components, each component understood to be a distinct records
dataset. If you apply for multiple components, provide separate
information for each component for Part II items.

The following sample data sets are examples of the type of priority records
that Donors would be
interested in for this RFP. However, by no means should the Submitter feel
obligated to confine
their proposal(s) to this list. Consideration will be given to any
proposal that includes records of
genealogical value and that involve local public interest groups where a
compelling story can be
told or a digital collection can be available online for the overall good
of the public.
