Please join OhioDIG for our summer meeting discussing quality shareable
metadata, focusing on metadata describing our unique digital collections.

OhioDIG ( http://www.ohiodig.org/), the Ohio digitization interest group
for archivists, librarians, and allied professionals, meets quarterly in
the central Ohio area for presentations and networking.

Meetings, 11:15 AM - 1 PM, consist of a 45-minute presentation, followed by
a "brown bag" lunch with all-attendee updates and networking. There is no
membership fee and no charge to attend meetings. All are welcome to attend!

Date: Tuesday, July 29, 2008, 11:15 AM-1 PM

Program: Quality Shareable Metadata.
"Shareable metadata is metadata which can be understood and used outside of
its local environment." A couple of good intros to the subject are "Moving

Metadata 'Shareable' Metadata? The Implications of Local Metadata Practices
for Federated Collections"

"Speaker: Melanie Schlosser, Metadata Librarian, the Scholarly Resources
Integration Department
(http://library.osu.edu/sites/techservices/srihome.php), The Ohio State
University. Melanie is a graduate of the Indiana University School of
Library and Information Science (MLS). While at IU, Melanie worked with the
IU Digital Library Program as a digital library resident, specializing in
electronic text projects and metadata issues. She currently works with
OSU's institutional repository (the KnowledgeBank
<https://kb.osu.edu/dspace/>https://kb.osu.edu/dspace/) and other digital
projects. You may have heard Melanie last fall at CO-ASIS&T speak on
"Alphabet Soup: A Metadata Overview." And you may also know her from
OhioLINK's Digital Resources Management Committee."

Host: Melanie Schlosser, Metadata Librarian, Scholarly Resources
Integration, The Ohio State University Libraries

Lunch: Brown bag. Pop machines available.
