The Ohio Historical Society (OHS) is accepting applications for an
Electronic Records Archivist position within the State Archives. This
position is primarily responsible for electronic records management and
preservation activities, including evaluating the administrative, legal,
historical, and fiscal value of electronic records generated by state
and local government entities and assisting in the appraisal, transfer,
accessioning, management, description, preservation and access of
electronic public records acquired by the State Archives of Ohio.

The Electronic Records Archivist will perform the following job
functions: 

*         Research and recommend actions necessary to coordinate
electronic records data conversion and/or other tasks and procedures
necessary to ensure preservation and access to electronic records
accessioned into the State Archives.  

*         In consultation with the State Archivist, establish and
implement program policies, goals and objectives.

*         Carry out professional archival work focused on the appraisal
of, description of, preservation of, and access to electronic records
transferred to the State Archives. 

*         Review options and make recommendations for accessioning, data
conversion, storage, preservation, and access for electronic records
appraised as archival.  

*         Provide advice and assistance to state and local governments
and OHS on issues related to the management and preservation of
electronic records.

*         Assist in the development of records retention and disposition
schedules for government records. 

*         Develop and deliver training on electronic records topics. 

*         Represent the State Archives on the Ohio Electronic Records
Committee. Serve on national and statewide working groups, committees,
and task forces as required.

*         Supervise the electronic records appraisal, preservation,
arrangement, and description efforts of staff archivists, interns and
volunteers. 

*         Serve as liaison with OHS Information Systems staff.  

*         Other duties as assigned.

 

The successful candidate will have a comprehensive knowledge of archival
and records management techniques, electronic records management
practices, systems analysis, data management, imaging practices, email
retention, emerging electronic technologies, and component
hardware/software. Working knowledge of state and local government
organizational structures, operations and functions preferred. Requires
excellent project management skills and an understanding of archival
systems, hardware and software used for electronic imaging systems,
document management systems, and personal computers. The ability to
effectively explain complex records management, archival and information
technology issues to staff, associates, government entities and the
public, orally and in writing is essential.

Preferred qualifications include a master's degree in library science,
archival administration, or  Information Technology and a minimum of
three years relevant experience managing a successful electronic records
program. Certified Archivist or Certified Records Manager designation
desirable. CDIA+ or AIIM ERM, ECM, BPM, or IOA Certificate Programs
strongly preferred. A valid driver's license is required.

This position requires prolonged sitting (chiefly at a computer
terminal) and some bending, stooping, climbing, and stretching, as well
as occasional lifting and moving of boxes weighing up to 50 pounds. May
require occasional travel throughout Ohio.

Minimum starting salary is $43,555, commensurate with experience.
