MIDWEST ARCHIVES CONFERENCE

Fall Symposium - Digital Preservation

Friday-Saturday --- November 7-8, 2008

Spring Hill Suites, Lawrence, Kansas

_Please note_ that the hotel registration deadline is October 8th.

Nancy Y. McGovern is the digital preservation officer for the University of Michigan's Inter-University Consortium for Political and Social Research (ICPSR). She is the co-developer of and primary instructor for Cornell's highly respected *Digital Preservation Management workshop series*. This workshop is predicated on the need for institutions to combine organizational and technological perspectives to devise an appropriate response to the challenges that digital preservation (DP) requirements present. If you are a manager at an institution who is grappling with fundamental DP issues, this presentation is meant for you. The workshop schedule centers around three action plan sessions for policy, technology and resource frameworks. They were developed to assist you in designing and implementing an approach that will work for your institution. Each action plan references exemplars from real programs and potential building blocks for your frameworks.

Symposium attendees are eligible to earn seven archival recertification credits from the Academy of Certified Archivists. Registration rate includes supplemental handouts and access to an online tutorial to be completed by participants in advance of the event.

To register for the symposium, visit our online registration hosted by the University of Kansas Continuing Education office (credit cards

accepted) at: http://www.continuinged.ku.edu/(keyword: MAC ).

You may also download the registration form at the MAC website at:

http://www.midwestarchives.org/2008Fall/, and return it with payment to the address listed.

The registration fee is $200 for MAC members, $250 for nonmembers, and $150 for students.

Registrants will receive admission to the day-and-a-half-long symposium, one lunch, and refreshments (including a Thursday night meet-and-greet reception at the hotel).

Enrollment is limited, so registration applications will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis and current MAC membership assures preference for advance registration. A waiting list will be kept through October 3, and those on it will be contacted by October 10.

Registrants will be contacted by E-mail regarding acceptance and additional details, such as updates on content, preconference readings, and lunch preferences.

Questions about registration? Contact the University of Kansas Continuing Education office (KUCE), 877-404-5823.
