This looks like a very good program, and for some of us, Charleston WV
is a short drive....

Surveying Archives: Wild and Wonderful
MARAC Spring 2009 Meeting, April 16-18, 2009
Holiday Inn Charleston House, Charleston, West Virginia
http://www.lib.umd.edu/MARAC/conferences/2009/spring09/spring09.html

The plenary address will feature Dr. Kenneth Thibodeau, Director of the
Electronic Records Archives (ERA) Program at the National Archives and
Records Administration. The ERA system launched last year and in its
initial stage supports the basic process of determining how long Federal
agencies need to keep records and whether the records should be
preserved in the National Archives afterwards. Dr. Thibodeau will report
on the progress by ERA and discuss what lies ahead.

The luncheon program features Fred Armstrong, former West Virginia state
archivist, speaking on the topic: "You Know You’re in West Virginia When..."

The program features twenty sessions to select from, with topics that
will appeal to both seasoned and new archivists. Sessions include a wide
range of topics such as regional collaborative projects, web harvesting,
wikis, introducing archives to students, Web 2.0, as well as a unique
pairing of sessions on the role of general and specialized knowledge in
the archival profession. We are certain that the sessions will be
wonderful and maybe even sometimes wild.

Our reception will be held at the West Virginia Capitol Complex at The
Cultural Center, where attendees and guests can enjoy hors d’oeuvres
while listening to traditional music. Afterwards, explore downtown
Charleston’s many dining options. There's something for everyone on the
program in Charleston; we look forward to seeing you there!

Additionally there are several preconference workshops:
ABC's of Archival Management; Project Management for Archival
Processing; Introduction to Video Preservation.
