Managing even the most acclaimed collections in the context of regional
and global advances in discovery creates tensions around access, use and
long-term preservation. The need to continually balance local needs and
budgetary constraints with the demands of a global, online research
community drives creative new thinking around classic management
challenges. In this presentation, Richard Ovenden will share insights
and aspirations around the management of one of the world's greatest
assets: the special collections of the Bodleian Library.

Edinburgh before his move to Oxford in 2003. He holds a Professorial
Fellowship at St Hugh's College Oxford, and Fellowships of the Royal
Society of Arts and the Society of Antiquaries. He has written
extensively on the history of ideas, the history of the book, and the
history of photography.
