Special Collections Librarian/Assistant Librarian to provide technical planning, implementation, project management, supervision, problem-solving and quality control for Special Collections digitization projects; serve as the department's liaison to and Associate in the Libraries' Center for Digital Scholarship, where the majority of digital processing takes place, and collaborate with CDS staff; share administrator duties for the Libraries' archival content management system, Archon; prepare online exhibits of digitized materials, both in connection with physical exhibits and as online only; provide training and supervision of staff and students working on digital and other assigned projects; develop, maintain and evolve the online presence and services for Special Collections; participate in grant development efforts; maintain awareness and develop in-depth knowledge of new technology, relevant national standards and best practices, assessing and integrating these into department practices; participate in Special Collections reference and instructional duties; promote the Libraries' digital collections through classroom demonstrations, in meetings with donors and colleagues, and at professional conferences; and assist with other duties as needed.

Require:  ALA accredited MLS degree; digital imaging training and/or experience; experience with web design and management; experience with digital asset management systems such as Archon and Dspace; knowledge of database management principles and software; familiarity with applicable provisions of copyright law; knowledge of best practices in digital project creation, management, and preservation; familiarity with metadata standards; aptitude for complex, analytical work with attention to detail, demonstrated problem-solving skills, and flexibility; ability to work independently and prioritize work to ensure that departmental and library goals are realized; excellent communication and interpersonal skills both orally and in writing; ability to work effectively in a team and service oriented environment; ability to meet the Miami University criteria for advancement and promotion of librarians as outlined in the Libraries Appointment, Rank and Promotion System (LARPS) .

Desire: Training and/or experience working with archival and special collections materials; training and/or experience with scripting languages such as Javascript, MySQL, and/or PHP; training and/or experience converting analog video and audio content to appropriate digital formats; reading knowledge of at least one non-English language, preferably Latin, French, German, Spanish or Russian.

The Walter Havighurst Special Collections includes rare books, notable subject collections, and manuscript collections. The collections (over 65,000 volumes and over 2,000 linear feet of archival collections) broadly support study and research in the arts, humanities, and social sciences. Several collections are accessible online through the Digital Collections site.

Summary
Walter Havighurst Special Collections Librarian with primary responsibility for developing digital collections based on materials in Special Collections, for improving online access to Special Collections materials, and for developing online outreach activities.
