To Whom It May Concern:

As you may have heard, the Georgia Archives is in danger of being closed due to budget issues in the State.  As it is, the Archives are open only two days a week, and the new budget will close the building to the public all together.

We are asking for help from regional organizations in order prove to the legislature that the access to and preservation of our historical records is an important and popular issue.  There is always debate about whether out-of-state letters help or not, but it's better to err on the side of numbers, and the sheer numbers can help.  What we're asking is for you to share the attached action alert with your members and anyone else you think would write or advocate on the Georgia Archives' behalf.  We are also looking for your board to write a letter as well, showing your support for keeping the archives open.

I know this is short notice, but we are requesting to have these letters compiled by Tuesday.  The Governor is set to sign a proclamation declaring October to be Georgia Archives Month, and there will be a photo shoot with Georgia archivists on Wednesday to celebrate.  We'd like to have these letters so we can present them when we are there.

I am sure you understand the urgency in this and hope you will help us prove to the Georgia legislators the importance of the Archives and the support they have across the country.
