Judging NHD is an extremely rewarding experience! The quality of the submissions will blow you away.
SOA also offers an award at the state level (http://ohsweb.ohiohistory.org/soa/index.php?title=History_Day_Awards).
What is National History Day?
National History Day (NHD) is a highly regarded academic program for elementary and secondary school students.
Each year, more than half a million students, encouraged by thousands of teachers nationwide participate in the NHD contest. Students choose historical topics related to a theme and conduct extensive primary and secondary research through libraries, archives, museums, oral history interviews and historic sites. After analyzing and interpreting their sources and drawing conclusions about their topics' significance in history, students present their work in original papers, websites, exhibits, performances and documentaries. These products are entered into competitions in the spring at local, state, and national levels where they are evaluated by professional historians and educators. The program culminates in the Kenneth E. Behring National Contest each June held at the University of Maryland at College Park.

Subject: National History Day in Ohio Call for Judges!
Dear History Day Judge:
It is that time of year again - it's time to sign up to judge History Day!
The district History Day contests around the state begin in March and I know all of them could use good judges! If you are interested in judging one of the district contests, please visit our website to find out dates and contact information for the district coordinator in your area: http://ohiohistory.prod.mindson.bridgelinedigital.net/education/national-history-day-in-ohio/contest-information/districts
Attached you will find a form to sign up for the state contest, which will be held on Saturday, April 26, 2014 at the Ohio Union at the Ohio State University. We have a lot of new schools this year, which means even more students creating amazing projects and getting excited about history! It also means we will need a large number of judges for the contest! Please pass this invitation on to others you think might be interested in judging.
Sign up for several events to maximize your dose of History Day fun! The theme this year is Rights and Responsibilities in History.
Judges provide vital feedback to students at all levels of History Day competition. Thanks to the help of judges like you, Ohio students had these successes at National History Day 2013 in College Park, Maryland:
