Summary:

This position provides services for the cataloging of archives, library,
museum and special collections into the Society's online collection
catalog. 

Essential duties and responsibilities

*         Create original catalog records for library, special
collections material and three-dimensional objects in the online
collection catalog and OCLC Online Computer Library Center. 

*         Add item, copy and summary holding records to the online
collection catalog. 

*         Revise and update bibliographic, item, copy and summary of
holdings records in the online collection catalog. 
Revise, update and merge authority records in the public access catalog.


*         Participate in the review and update workflow cataloging
procedures

*         Interact with staff of OHIONET and OCLC Online Computer
Library Center. 

*         Provide public reference services during assigned shifts 

*         Train staff and volunteers on cataloging procedures

*         Other duties as assigned. 

Education, experience and skills:

Candidates must have a Master's degree in library Science or related
discipline from an accredited university. A minimum of three to five
years experience with museum, library and/or archival collections
desired. Demonstrated knowledge of cataloging and vocabulary standards
such as Chenhall classifications, Library of Congress Subject Headings,
Art and Architecture Thesaurus and Thesaurus of Graphical Materials.  

Also required are the ability to communicate effectively orally and in
writing with patrons, staff and donors, basic mathematical skills and a
basic knowledge of computer programs to include Microsoft Office, and
on-line database search programs. Thorough knowledge of MARC formats and
online access public catalogs.  

Candidates should be able to work independently, to follow complex
instructions, to manage time effectively and to exercise good judgment.
This position requires the ability to lift, carry, reach and retrieve
items weighing up to 50 pounds from a height of six feet, the ability to
operate library carts and may require standing, and movement within a
confined area for periods of up to four hours. The majority of the work
in this position is performed in a library environment; some takes place
in library stack and storage areas, with overhead lighting, and
industrial HVAC air circulation system.
