[SOA] Internship Opportunities at Center for the History of Psychology (Akron, Ohio)

The Center for the History of Psychology has two Graduate Student Practicum
Opportunities available for Fall 2013 and/or Spring 2013 working with the
Moving Image collection!

The CHP houses more than 12,000 moving image documents in formats including
videotape, film, and digital media.

Practicum 1: Films from the History of Psychology (approx. 150 hours)

Following established guidelines and standards, the practicum student will
. work on rehousing and reorganizing the 16mm and 8mm film while following
best-practices for archival storage and access ; create and edit metadata
for access through the CHP’s content management system CONTENTdm ; digitize
selected portions of the collection for public access ; conduct research in
the CHP manuscripts collection and correspondence files for content and
context, copyright, donor agreements ; make recommendations for at least
one collection to be made available digitally, abstract and populate the
collection.

Practicum 2: Child Development Film Archives (approx. 150 hours)

Following established guidelines and standards, the practicum student will
 digitize paper records from the Child Development Film Archive ; create
and edit metadata for access through the CHP’s content management system
CONTENTdm, including uploading digitized CDFA records ; digitize selected
portions of the collection for public access ; conduct research in the CHP
manuscripts collection and correspondence files for content and context,
 copyright, donor agreements ; make recommendations for at least one
collection to be made available digitally, abstract and populate the
collection.

Practicum students will be responsible for maintaining a weekly journal and
writing at least one contribution for the CHP blog regarding his/her work
and discoveries throughout the practicum experience. These writing
requirements are in addition to those required through the student’s
graduate program.

Qualifications: Candidates must be enrolled in a graduate program in
Archives, Museum, or Library Science, Public History, or Communications and
Media. Some experience with film, digitization technologies, and metadata
creation is preferred.

Compensation: This is an unpaid practicum opportunity.

Environment: The Center for the History of Psychology actively acquires,
preserves, and provides access to primary sources and rare materials that
support the teaching and research of the complete historical record of
psychology and related human sciences. Collections consist of personal
manuscript collections, artifacts, photographs, monographs, psychological
tests, and audiovisual materials.
