A Practicum Opportunity for Spring 2014


*Project Description*:


The CHP received an IMLS Museums for America Grant to design and install an
interactive exhibit in its Museum of Psychology titled *Measuring the Mind*.
The grant project is called “Focused on Field Trips.”


The CHP is accepting applications for a Practicum Student or Volunteer for
Spring 2014 to



1.      work from an exhibit plan created by the CHP to install the
exhibit (with
the assistance of an undergraduate student assistant)

2.      handle and display document and artifacts using archival and museum
standards for exhibits

3.      assist with researching and writing interpretative text for the
exhibit

2.   assist the Project Graduate Assistant in designing educational
resource guides for teachers on field trips to the museum

3.   maintain a weekly journal

4.   contribute at least one entry for the CHP blog


*Qualifications*: Candidates must be enrolled in a graduate program
specializing
in archives, special collections, public history, or
library/archives/museum education.  Candidate must have research and
writing experience and excellent communication skills.


*Compensation*: This is an unpaid practicum opportunity.


*Environment*: The Center for the History of Psychology actively acquires,
preserves, and provides access to primary sources and rare materials that
support the teaching and research of the complete historical record of
psychology and related human sciences. Collections consist of personal
manuscript
collections, artifacts, photographs, monographs, psychological tests, and
audiovisual materials. The CHP is a Smithsonian Affiliate and the Museum of
Psychology is open 6 days a week and free to the public.
