[apologies for cross posting]

Code4Lib will take place March 24-27, 2014 in Raleigh, North Carolina. Organizers from the libraries at Duke University and the University of North Carolina invite archivists and others interested in the discovery of archival collections to participate in a full-day pre-conference session ahead of the conference on March 24, 2014. Preliminary details about the pre-conference are available at:http://wiki.code4lib.org/index.php/2014_preconference_proposals#Archival_discovery_and_use.

In keeping with the spirit of Code4Lib, the details of the pre-conference will continue to evolve based on attendees expressed interest and ideas. Tentatively, topics to be covered include: crowd-sourcing description to enhance collections; linked data and authority; mass digitization and sustainable workflows; digitized objects in context (images and other objects in finding aids); versioning; and global-, intra-, and inter- discovery of archival materials via finding aids. For questions and to express interest in specific topics, please contact: Tim Shearer, UNC Chapel Hill, tshearer at email.unc.edu<http://email.unc.edu> or Will Sexton, Duke, will.sexton at duke.edu<http://duke.edu>

Those who wish to attend the pre-conference do not need to register for the entire conference. Pre-conference registration is $10 for those attending Code4Lib, and $25 for those attending the pre-conference only. Registration opens January 15, and closes February 14. Code4Lib is capped at 350 participants. Please see details at: http://code4lib.org/conference/2014/. To register just for the pre-conference go to: https://www.concentra-cms.com/c/c4l2014precons

About Code4Lib 2014 Conference

The Code4Lib 2014 conference (http://code4lib.org/files/Code4LibProspectus.pdf), held at the Raleigh Sheraton from March 24-27, presents an opportunity for vendors, organizations, libraries, and projects to show their support for open and collaborative solutions for higher education, libraries, museums, and archives through attending the conference and providing financial sponsorship. Each year, the Code4Lib conference helps revitalize the community as participants meet in person to discuss new and ongoing projects in a single-track format with 20-minute presentations and 5-minute lightning talks. Volunteer-led pre-conference programs provide in-depth participatory learning experiences for participants while ad-hoc afternoon breakout sessions focus on collaboration around specific topics of interest.
