Ohio Connection to Collections workshops:

A Question of Balance: Collection Environment Basics
How to Maintain Your Collection and What to Do if Something Goes Wrong

November 2014: Five Dates, Five Locations, Same Great Content

The Ohio Connecting to Collections partners, in collaboration with the Ohio Preservation Council (OPC) will be offering a series of no-cost regional meetings in November on basic collections care, environmental control and emergency response.

The morning session, a lecture format, will focus on environmental controls and monitoring. Each location will also feature an area speaker discussing a disaster which occurred at their institution and how they managed to recover.

In order to provide a data-driven and meaningful session on environmental controls, institutions from each location who register within the first two weeks will be entered into a drawing for a PEM2 datalogger which they will receive at their institution at least one month prior to the session. To be eligible for a datalogger, the institution must install the datalogger, collect institutional data and allow C2C presenters to use their data as part of the workshop presentation. Following the workshop, the institution will keep the datalogger. Five PEM2 dataloggers, one for each regional workshop, will be given away.

The afternoon portion is a hands-on session conducted by OPC. The session will focus on immediate response to minor water disasters, wet book and artifact recovery with minimal intervention, and resources for the next level of recovery.
