This free workshop is going to be really really good. You can register for the lecture/case study portion in the AM or hands-on with water damaged materials in the afternoon, or both!

Some locations will fill before others (Dayton I'm looking at you), but so far Athens registration is light (come here!)

best, janet

A Question of Balance: Collection Environment Basics
How to Maintain Your Collection and What to Do if Something Goes Wrong

"This workshop equipped me with a systematic way to deal with preservation and environment and energy savings."

"Communication is the key for sustainability."

"I would like hands on training on collections care issues."

Evaluations from the one-day workshop "Sustainable Preservation Practices" provided these and many similar comments. The Connecting to Collections partners will taking these concepts on the road in the November regional workshops, A Question of Balance: Collection Environment Basics: How to Maintain Your Collection and What to Do if Something Goes Wrong."

The morning session, will focus on environmental controls and monitoring. Primary speakers are Tom Clareson, Senior Consultant for Digital & Preservation Services, LYRASIS, and Jeff Carr, Registrar/Preparator, Kennedy Museum of Art at Ohio University. An area speaker will provide a case study of a disaster which occurred at their institution and how they managed to recover.

The afternoon session is a hands-on program focusing on immediate response to minor water disasters, wet book and artifact recovery with minimal intervention, and resources for the next level of recovery. It will be conducted by Wes Boomgaarden, Preservation Consultant, Chair, Ohio Preservation Council, Ohio State University Libraries, Emeritus.

Registration and parking for the meetings is free, lunch is on your own. Registrants may choose to register for either the morning lecture or afternoon hands-on session or both.
