Archivist I, Local Government Records
Summary: This position within the State Archives is primarily responsible for providing archival and records management advice and assistance to local government entities as well as appraising and processing local government records.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
* Identifying and appraising record series.
* Reviewing records retention schedules and disposal lists.
* Transferring local government records.
* Accessioning, arranging and describing government records.
* Preparing records for microfilming and digitization.
* Performing basic holdings maintenance activities.
* Employing the efficient use of storage space and equipment.
* Consulting with public officials on records creation, maintenance, storage and disposition issues.
* Revising record retention manuals.
* Conducting workshops/presentations for public officials and other interested audiences.
* Other duties as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
May supervise interns and volunteers.
Qualifications
Education and Experience:
Master's degree in archival studies, library science (with an archival component), American History, or other areas of the humanities or the equivalent in work experience plus one to two years of experience.
Certificates or Licensures:
Must possess valid driver's license. Certified Archivist designation preferred.
Language Skills:
Ability to follow complex written or oral instructions.
Mathematical Skills:
Requires basic mathematical skills.
Technical Skills:
Database management and library automation skills preferred. Familiarity with Microsoft Suite.
Reasoning Ability:
Ability to pay attention to detail while completing repetitive tasks, to manage time effectively, and to exercise good judgment.
