Notice to Researchers:

We are excited to announce that in Spring 2017, the Genealogy and Dayton Local History collections of the Dayton Metro Library will be returning downtown to the new Main Library! Unfortunately, moving materials means reduced access. So that you may carefully prepare for your 2017 research needs, we will strive to keep you informed. Please keep in mind that ALL dates are tentative.

During the renovation and expansion of the Main Library, the core materials of the Genealogy and Local History collections have been temporarily housed at the Genealogy Center, 359 Maryland Ave, in Old North Dayton. The remainder The Library's Local History and Archives collections are being stored at a remote location.

Tentative timeline:

* February: We will begin moving remote storage materials to the New Main Library. While you may still request access to these materials, please be prepared for a longer waiting period, as materials may be in transit or boxed. To arrange access to storage materials, contact History at DaytonMetroLibrary.org<mailto:History at DaytonMetroLibrary.org>, or call 937.496.8652.

* March: The temporary Genealogy Center on Maryland Avenue will permanently close! We will relocate collections to the new Main Library and begin the lengthy process of arranging the new space. This means there will be NO access to Genealogy or Dayton Local History books and Archives during this time, until Grand Opening.

* May or June: The New Main Library will open with much fanfare. We think you will be delighted by our new space prominently located on the 2nd floor with ample natural light and comfortable furnishings.

* During the weeks that the temporary Genealogy Center is closed, you may still access most of our online databases 24/7, and Ancestry.com will be available at the Temporary Downtown Branch (120 S. Patterson Blvd), or at any branch<https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=http-3A__www.daytonmetrolibrary.org_locations&d=CwMFAg&c=3buyMx9JlH1z22L_G5pM28wz_Ru6WjhVHwo-vpeS0Gk&r=t6N9l-b6D7848YM1FRqr0r_mI1dSaOTiIROoQcZmEXY&m=14t7fPUmy7AqEg-z9p925HSq44DEzrQJwmSRPS9tEq0&s=_omiNq1NdjjUPqAaMKE7NDi5Oy43Q00oIAitS-Q_unk&e=> of the Dayton Metro Library system.

Until the temporary Genealogy Center closes, our hours remain:

Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday - 9:30am to 8:30pm

Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday - 9:30am to 6:00pm

We know this period of limited or no access to research materials may be an inconvenience, but we will do our best to keep you informed of specific dates as they are known (or changed). In addition, watch our website for announcements related to the Grand Opening of the New Main Library, and consider joining us for our Gala preview event and Fundraiser, The Main Event<https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=http-3A__www.daytonmetrolibrary.org_themainevent&d=CwMFAg&c=3buyMx9JlH1z22L_G5pM28wz_Ru6WjhVHwo-vpeS0Gk&r=t6N9l-b6D7848YM1FRqr0r_mI1dSaOTiIROoQcZmEXY&m=14t7fPUmy7AqEg-z9p925HSq44DEzrQJwmSRPS9tEq0&s=Glw-CxUUvm8IzzPM9Uh610JafGqS2TYoNOq0BbG5PIU&e=>, planned for April 22, 2017 from 7:00 - 11:30 p.m., with all proceeds benefiting the Library Foundation!
