Dear NCH members,

President Obama’s nomination of Dr. Carla Hayden to become the 14th 
Librarian of Congress is pending before the US Senate and may be voted 
on at any time. We are asking you to send a legislative alert to your 
members to urge them to contact their senators and ask support for her 
confirmation. We are also urging that a vote be scheduled as soon as 
possible so she can assume her position which has been vacant since 
October 2015.

Dr. Hayden would become the first woman and the first African-American 
to lead the Library of Congress. She would also be the first librarian 
to serve in the post in 60 years.

In anticipation of your questions, I do not have any idea when her 
nomination will be considered. Once it is on the executive calendar it 
can come to the floor without notice. The hope is before the upcoming 
4th of July recess. Her nomination was unanimously cleared by the Senate 
Rules Committee. I've been in contact with my counterpart at the 
American Library Association who said her nomination is not considered 
controversial. That said there is no telling when which is why we are 
asking for expedited consideration.

your members. It will be up on NCH's social media platforms momentarily.
