Local Area Archival Repositories Participate in an Archives Crawl!

October is American Archives Month. This is an opportunity to raise awareness about the value of archives and archivists.  The Miami Valley Archives Roundtable is sponsoring an Archives Crawl in the Dayton and Cincinnati areas.

Participating Repositories:

*         Archdiocese of Cincinnati

*         Beavercreek Historical Society

*         Clark County Historical Society

*         Clinton County Records & Archives

*         Enon Community Historical Society

*         Franciscan Sisters of the Poor Congregational Archives

*         Greene County Historical Society

*         Greene County Records Center & Archives

*         Montgomery County Records  Center & Archives

*         Piqua Public Library, Local History Department

*         Smith Library of Regional History

*         Walter Havighurst Special Collections & Archives

*         Warren County Records Center & Archives

*         Wright State University, Special Collections & Archives

*         WYSO Archives


Each of the host repositories has its own unique collection full of interesting pieces of local history.  During October, 2016, take this opportunity to visit some of the local archival repositories and learn about the treasures they preserve.
The goal of the Archives Crawl is to visit as many of the participating repositories as possible during the month of October and have each of them stamp your passport.  Passports are available at any of the participating repositories. Be sure to visit each repositories' website and/or social media page for their regular hours of operation.

Crawlers who visit at least five participating repositories will win a $10 gift certificate to Carillon Brewery (can only be used towards food purchases) and will be entered into a drawing for a first-place prize of a $100 Gaylord Archival gift certificate. The second-place prize will be a Greene County stuffed pilot bear. The drawing will take place at the November 2016 MVAR meeting and the winner will be notified shortly thereafter.

Please note that current employees, volunteers, or contractors of any of the participating repositories are not eligible to win any of the prizes.
Come check out these local archival repositories during the month of October!  You never know what you might find in the archives!
