Jenni Salamon, Ohio Digital Newspaper coordinator, Ohio History Connection.
Did you know that some content published after 1922 might be in the public domain? Understanding how copyright applies to your collections is a key step in creating digitization, exhibit or other public access projects. Attend this session to learn more about how copyright laws apply to materials published between 1923 and 1963 (and even more recently). You will also learn how to use U.S. Copyright Office resources to research the copyright status of works from this time period and how you might be able to move your public access projects beyond 1922.
Friday 10:10-11am: Revealing Voices and Songs of Holocaust Survivors using a Redesigned Wire Recorder
Jodi Kearns, digital projects manager & Jamie Newhall, senior multimedia producer, Cummings Center for the History of Psychology.
Wire as a recording medium has been abandoned, and the recordings made using the technology are not easily accessed. This presentation will discuss how staff from the Cummings Center for the History of Psychology at the University of Akron revealed voices and songs of holocaust survivors using a redesigned wire recorder.
Friday 11:20am-12:10pm: The Digital Public Library of America and You
Jen Johnson, DPLA project coordinator, State Library of Ohio.
The Digital Public Library of America is a free and open web portal to digitized cultural heritage collections across the United States. In this session, you will learn about the collections that are already online and available for you to use, and how Ohio's collections will benefit from inclusion into DPLA.
Friday 2:10-3:00pm: Leveraging Libraries and Student Veterans: The Veterans' Voices Project
Jane Wildermuth, head, Digital Initiatives and Repository Services; Seth Gordon, director, Veteran and Military Center; Jeniffer Seavey, project coordinator, Veterans' Voices Project, Veteran and Military Center, Wright State University.
