Ohio Valley Group of Technical Services Librarians 2017 Conference
Keynote Speakers: Lorcan Dempsey and Terry Reese
Theme: Technical Services by Design
Place: Xavier University, Cincinnati, Ohio
Dates: Sunday through Tuesday (May 21-23, 2017)
Website: http://ovgtslibrarians.org/Conference.html
>From book catalogs to PACs to linked data records, Technical Services adapts new tools to deal with new and old resources. AACR2 gives way to RDA, MARC to BIBFRAME. New materials appear for staff to select, acquire, catalog, process, and provide access to. Older cataloging hides in need of updating to current standards: metadata, vocabulary, description, access. Other catalogs are composed of a variety of standards into one access tool. This conference focuses on Technical Services as they seek to update, upgrade, and uplift existing services to provide better service and selection to our users. All this technology is for people, and Technical Services still works to improve management and workflow skills, outreach to new areas, materials, and services within the library and without, and wresting with new security and privacy issues. Still working with others and our principles to create Technical Services by design.
The Conference Program Committee invites forward thinking submissions in all areas to technical services librarianship including acquisitions, cataloging, serials, electronic resources, and preservation in academic, public, and special libraries. Participants are encouraged to think about where we are headed and where we want to go and to share work in areas on the leading edge of librarianship. Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:
* Approaches to metadata creation, reuse, and interoperability
* Approaches to training
* Authority control in open source repository platforms
