Greetings,

Several spots still remain for "Building 21st Century Digital Communities: Using Digital Mapping to Develop Innovative Online Exhibits" on July 17 and 18, 2017 at Wilmington College (Registration Link: https://wilmingtoncollege.wufoo.com/forms/building-21st-century-digital-communities/)

The Peace Resource Center at Wilmington College invites you to participate in this 2-day workshop for an introduction to digital mapping (through Cesium js, an open source platform similar to Google Earth) as a way to build an online exhibit using archival materials. The workshop's premise is that creating, developing, and sustaining such exhibits will allow archives to reach and foster new communities of users. The workshop will be led by Kenya Tamura and Hiroki Inoue, Systems Design PhD students from Watanave Laboratories in the Department of System Design, Tokyo Metropolitan University, Tokyo, Japan.

Examples of digital mapping by Watanave Laboratories can be found here:

The Pearl Harbor Archive: http://1941.mapping.jp/
The Nagasaki Archive: http://n.mapping.jp/index_en.html
The Tokyo Olympic Archive: http://www.asahi.com/special/tokyo1964/

Schedule Overview:

Day 1 (Monday, 7/17, 9:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m.): Day 1 of the workshop will include a hands-on session to gain familiarity with the technology and a session on developing the theme, narrative, and archival assets for an online exhibit.

Day 2 (Tuesday, 7/18, 9:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m.): Day 2 of the workshop will further immerse participants in the technology by uploading already prepared pdfs of texts, scans of photos, and audio visual files to their own online exhibit using the Cesium digital mapping system.

Participants in the workshop will leave the workshop with foundational knowledge in how to use the digital mapping system Cesium js as well as the beginnings of an online exhibit that can be accessed from their home organizations and further developed or modified.

The workshop will be limited to 10 spots with a registration fee of $60.00. In the event of more than 10 registrants, participants will be selected based upon the fit of a proposed project to the digital mapping process.
