NCH Urges Education Department to Prioritize K-12 History Education
Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos recently proposed a list of priorities and definitions<https://historycoalition.us10.list-manage.com/track/click?u=08692bfb14b4b62cef6bb2878&id=f0b8139f35&e=994dc209a0> to be used in awarding discretionary (competitive) grants including ones for K-12 history and civics education. While the proposal recommends a greater emphasis on civics, it unfortunately does not prioritize history as well. On October 23, the National Coalition for History (NCH) submitted comments<https://historycoalition.us10.list-manage.com/track/click?u=08692bfb14b4b62cef6bb2878&id=633c18622c&e=994dc209a0> to the Department of Education requesting that history be included along with civics education in prioritizing how limited grant funds are awarded. NARA Releases Partial Cache of JFK Assassination Records
The National Archives and Records Administration just released 2,891 additional federal agency records associated with the assassination of President John F. Kennedy. However, at the urging of the CIA and FBI, President Trump exercised his authority to delay the release of the remaining 300 documents for 180 days to allow for further review of potential "national security, law enforcement, and foreign affairs concerns."
