Congress Passes Partial FY 19 Federal Funding Bills
Congress approved five of twelve appropriations bills by the time the 2019 fiscal year began on October 1. While that might not seem like a major accomplishment, it had not been accomplished in 22 years. These bills include funding for the Department of Education, Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) and Library of Congress. IMLS Reauthorization Bill Introduced
On September 28, the “Museum and Library Services Act” (S. 3530) was re-introduced by Senator Jack Reed (D-RI)<https://historycoalition.us10.list-manage.com/track/click?u=08692bfb14b4b62cef6bb2878&id=3936dfbc1c&e=994dc209a0> to accommodate a minor change in the state library grant formula. This bill will reauthorize the IMLS. This change to the library state grant funding formula doesn’t affect museum provisions included in the previous version that was introduced by Senator Reed in 2017. In addition, a new companion bill (H.R. 6988) was introduced in the House by Representative Raul Grijalva (D-AZ).

Congressional Research Service Reports Database Activated
The 2018 omnibus appropriations bill that was passed by Congress and signed by the President in May included a provision mandating that all non-confidential CRS reports be made publicly available online through a free website within 90 to 270 days of their publication. Before now, CRS reports were not easily accessible to the public. The website recently went live but not all past reports are yet available. https://crsreports.congress.gov/<https://historycoalition.us10.list-manage.com/track/click?u=08692bfb14b4b62cef6bb2878&id=287c4eb6c7&e=994dc209a0> More>>><https://historycoalition.us10.list-manage.com/track/click?u=08692bfb14b4b62cef6bb2878&id=b8fab832b3&e=994dc209a0>

The renovations, part of a complete $1 billion remodel of the museum, will redesign twenty-three different gallery spaces in total, requiring the removal of some notable aircraft and artifacts to the Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center<https://historycoalition.us10.list-manage.com/track/click?u=08692bfb14b4b62cef6bb2878&id=74989072ae&e=994dc209a0> while keeping others like the "Spirit of Saint Louis" and the Apollo Lunar Module on display. Renovations are scheduled to be completed by 2025.
