2019 DIGITAL DIRECTIONS: Fundamentals of Creating and Managing Digital Collections     

August 19-20  ---  Overland Park, Kansas (Kansas City Metro area)   

Are you just getting started in digitization and digital preservation? Trying to bring several digital projects together into a cohesive digital preservation program? Or are you well into a digital collections project and need a refresher on the latest standards and best practices?   

The Digital Directions conference is geared toward professionals working with digital collections at archives, libraries, museums, historical organizations, government agencies, corporate archives, and other organizations that steward digital collections. Students are welcome, and a discounted student registration rate is available.

PRESERVATION 101: Preservation Basics for Paper and Media Collections, the 10-Session Web Course

April 18-June 27 (Registration deadline is April 11)

The instructor-led web course is a comprehensive introduction for those who wish to become effective stewards for collections. Participants receive instruction on completing  a preservation needs assessment, structured guidance on creating an institutional disaster plan, and learn to develop recommendations for a long-range preservation plan. Student discount available.

NEW - One-Day Workshops for Smaller Organizations - Presented at different locations on consecutive days:

DIGITAL PRESERVATION FOR SMALLER INSTITUTIONS This workshop focuses on practical tips and activities for small organizations that have less than $500 per year to devote to digital preservation efforts. Partnering with Digital POWRR.

AUDIOVISUAL PRESERVATION FOR SMALLER INSTITUTIONS This workshop gives participants from smaller organizations the foundation needed to be effective collections stewards for AV materials.

These two workshops will be presented at:

June 10 and 11,  Brown University, Rockefeller Library, Providence, Rhode Island  
  
June 13 and 14,  University of Vermont, Howe Library, Burlington, Vermont  

July 8 and 9,  Brookings, South Dakota  

July 18 and 19,  Huntington, West Virginia  

Participants may attend one or both days. A limited number of scholarships are available for the registration fee and travel assistance. (Please fill out scholarship application before registering.) These low-cost workshops are supported by a grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities.
