2020 BPE Now Virtual!
Join us May 18-20, 2020
The 2020 BPE Program Committee is pleased to announce that the 2020 proceedings will now be a virtual conference, set to take place Monday, May 18, 2020 through Wednesday, May 20, 2020.
While we were disappointed to cancel the in-person component of the conference, originally scheduled for March 23-25, 2020 in Raleigh, NC, the health and safety of all our attendees and presenters was a high priority for the Program and Local Arrangements Committees. We are grateful that our plenary speaker, Monique Lassere, and most of our presenters were willing to shift to a virtual setting. Additionally, our thanks goes out to our sponsors -- Elsevier | Digital Commons, LIBNOVA, LYRASIS, and the University of North Carolina School of Information and Library Science for their continued support of this conference.
About the 2020 Conference
Following the theme Sustaining and Maintaining Digital Initiatives, the virtual conference will focus on issues relating to digital preservation, data management, email archiving, labor of work, selection and assessment strategies, tool implementations, and workflow analysis.
Our plenary speaker, Monique Lassere, is currently the first full-time Digital Archivist at Harvard University's Houghton Library. Previously, she was the Digital Preservation Librarian at the University Libraries at the University of Arizona, where she oversaw development of the Libraries’ digital preservation strategy and program. She researches issues in software preservation, born-digital archives, and information maintenance. Currently she is finishing a software preservation grant provided through the Software Preservation Network and supported by the Institute of Museum and Library Services which aims to preserve and provide access to legacy video games. Prior to joining the University of Arizona Monique worked for a digital preservation startup company, Digital Bedrock, researching file formats and software obsolescence. Monique earned her MSLIS (2017) and B.A. in English Literature (2013) from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

About BPE
BPE is an unconference that focuses on the management and the preservation of digital information. It brings together practitioners to discuss their real-world experiences, including best practices and lessons learned. Traditionally, these informal, conversational sessions give presenters and attendees alike a unique opportunity to meet, experience, and cooperate with other practitioners, educators, and researchers seeking to address a wide array of digital challenges.
BPE is open to all, but particularly practitioners in government and university archives and libraries; educators and researchers in the fields of library science, information science, technology, archives, and records management; and product developers working to create systems for managing and preserving digital assets.
We look forward to your participation!
