Wright State University Libraries seeks a full time Head of the Special Collections and Archives Department. This Department Head promotes the archives regionally, nationally and internationally, is responsible for fundraising, donor relations, and outreach efforts, manages endowments and special funds, and guides collection development, acquisition, preservation and reference activities. The Department Head manages all aspects of the Department’s daily operations including establishing policies and procedures, strategic planning and the supervision of staff, students and volunteers.



The position includes the following responsibilities:

  *   Collaborates with the University Librarian and the University Foundation to achieve advancement goals and objectives.
  *   Cultivates, develops and maintains contact with existing and potential monetary donors.
  *   Establishes policies and procedures, directs strategic planning, prepares departmental reports and supervises three professional archivists, the university records manager, graduate and undergraduate assistants and volunteers.
  *   Identifies and cultivates new collections in accordance with the Department’s collection policy.
  *   Promotes the use of archives and special collections.


Requirements:

  *   A.L.A. accredited M.L.S./M.L.I.S. or M.A. in History
  *   Five  years’ progressively responsible experience in special collections and archives
  *   Experience with collection management and stewardship of collections
  *   Demonstrated supervisory experience
  *   Excellent oral and written communication skills
  *   Excellent presentation skills
  *   Ability to establish relationships and work effectively with donors, researchers and organizations
  *   Demonstrated experience with fund raising and grant writing



Preferred qualifications:

  *   Experience with strategic planning and assessment of services and programs
  *   Knowledge of aviation history
  *   Knowledge of local and regional history
