Hello SOA membership!

SOA is in need of a new RAAC Representative! As stated at the Annual
Meeting in June, Janet Carleton's term as RAAC Rep has come to an end ( as
of last month) and we are in need of a replacement. The person would serve
a 2 year term and would attend the RAAC Annual Meeting, which takes place
during the SAA Annual Meeting (which is now virtual, so the cost of a trip
is not an issue/also it is not required to be a member of SAA to be the
RAAC rep). Aside from that, sharing information between RAAC and SOA would
be the main responsibility. There is also encouragement to join a
committee, though this is no longer a mandatory requirement.

This is a great opportunity for leadership experience and to help connect
SOA with what archivists in our region and country are doing.

See below for more detailed information. Also, please reach out to me with
any questions or concerns, and of course please, PLEASE reach out to me if
you are interested in being our new rep!

“The Regional Archival Associations Consortium (RAAC) provides a mechanism
to connect the leadership of regional, multistate, state, and local
archival organizations with each other and to the Society of American
Archivists (SAA). RAAC seeks to facilitate information exchange and foster
collaboration among these organizations. It offers formal channels to
coordinate efforts intra-state, interstate, and with SAA which facilitate
streamlining actions, reducing costs, and increasing services. Such efforts
include but are not limited to advocacy, public awareness, education,
disaster planning/recovery, and grant development. Regional, multistate,
state, and local archival organizations shall appoint a representative to
RAAC to facilitate communication and foster collaboration. In addition, any
person who is interested in participating in the work of RAAC may become a
member by joining the RAAC listserv.”

Recommendations for Choosing & Expectations of RAAC Representatives
<https://www2.archivists.org/groups/regional-archival-associations-consortium-raac/recommendations-for-choosing-expectations-of-raac-representatives>

Before a RAAC representative is chosen, they must agree to the following:

They must serve a two-year term and may only serve two consecutive terms.

They must attend RAAC’s annual general meeting, which takes place during
the Society of American Archivists’ annual meeting.

If the RAAC representative is unable to attend, they must find another
attendee to represent them at the annual general meeting.

They must forward pertinent RAAC emails to either their regional
association’s listserv or executive board.

They must respond to pertinent RAAC emails in a timely manner.

If RAAC representatives are not fulfilling expectations, then the RAAC
co-chairs will inquire with the RAAC representative. If there is no
response, the RAAC co-chairs will inquire with the RAAC representative’s
regional and ask to provide a new representative.
