Please see the following job descriptions for two temporary open positions at the University of Cincinnati Libraries.

1) The Henry R. Winkler Center for the History of the Health Profession at the University of Cincinnati Libraries seeks candidates for a part-time (15 hours per week) processing archivist for a seven month temporary position. The archivist in this position will work closely with Winkler Center Archivist/Curator on processing the Eula Bingham, PhD, Papers. This effort will include retrieving the materials from two different storage spaces, arranging and describing the collection, creation of a finding aid in ArchivesSpace and OhioLink, and regular blogging and social media posts describing the project's progress.

A professor and eventually Vice President and Dean of Graduate Studies and Research at the University of Cincinnati, Eula Bingham is probably best known as the Assistant Secretary of Labor for Occupational Safety and Health (OSHA) under the presidency of Jimmy Carter. She is internationally known for her work in environmental and occupational health.

Responsibilities:
      *Retrieve materials from off-site storage spaces. This includes working with family (donors) to arrange for pick-up, etc.
      *Arrange and describe the materials in accordance to Describing Archives: A Content Standard (DACS).
      *Rehouse the collection in new folders and boxes. This includes purchasing the proper storage boxes, folders, and surveying and inventorying other housing needs.
      *Keeping detailed notes on items that may be digitized in future iterations of the project.
      *Blog and create social media posts regularly on the project's development and any other items of interest that may be found in the collection.

The successful candidate will demonstrate excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills and the ability to work independently and in team-based setting where flexibility and collaboration are essential.

Required Qualifications
      *Recent graduate or working towards a master's degree in Library and Information Science (M.L.S./M.L.I.S.) from an ALA-accredited library school, or an equivalent accredited degree with formal training in archival theory and practice.
      *Coursework, training, or experience in archival theory and practice including appraisal, processing, and description.
      *Knowledge of archival principles and archival ethics.
      *Deep interest in history and a dedication to preserving the full complexity of the cultural record.

Desired Qualifications
      *Experience applying efficient processing techniques in arranging, describing, and preserving archival collections of large size
      *Experience applying archival standards and vocabularies, including EAD, DACS, and LCSH
      *Familiarity with archival systems such as ArchivesSpace.
      *Experience using social media in a professional setting.

Salary/Employment Duration
*       $20. per hour / 15-20 hours per week / 6 month position

2) The Henry R. Winkler Center for the History of the Health Profession seeks candidates for a part-time (20 hours per week) assistant archivist. The archivist hired for this position will work closely with Winkler Center Archivist/Curator on creating a series of exhibits related to Renaissance doctor and anatomist, Andreas Vesalius. The exhibits will correspond to a lecture series focused on Vesalius that will run from October, 2021 through April, 2022.

This effort will include researching the life and work of Vesalius with special attention paid to his major anatomical work De humani corporis fabrica, and creating text and choosing images for the exhibits. Other duties include the handling and exhibiting of early editions of the fabrica dating from 1543; liaising with University of Cincinnati Communications Office and others on the printing, producing and installing of the exhibits; and finally, being available for four in-person events related to the exhibit and the lecture series.

Responsibilities:
*       Research the life and career of Andreas Vesalius and his work De humani corporis fabrica.
*       Create exhibit text based on aforementioned research
*       Consider and choose images to use for the exhibit that will bring life to the text and give the exhibits aesthetic value.
*       Attend events related to the exhibit and the lecture series and be prepared to discuss research methods, and Vesalius.

The successful candidate will demonstrate excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills and the ability to work independently and in a team-based setting where consultation, flexibility, and collaboration are essential.

Required Qualifications
*       Recent graduate or working toward a degree in public history, museum studies, or related field.
*       Coursework, training, or experience in archival, art, or history exhibit development.
*       A deep interest in history and a dedication to presenting the complexity of the historic record.

Desired Qualifications
*       Experience working on exhibits in an art or history museum, or a library or archives setting.
*       Experience working with antiquarian books and other historic documents
*       Familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, InDesign, etc)

Salary and Employment Duration
*       $20. per hour at 20 hours per week for six months.
