Subject: [External] MAC 2024 proposal on judicial/legal collections
Hi everyone - My name is Anu Kasarabada, and I'm an archivist at the University of Kentucky. I've just a posted a proposal idea about legal/judicial collections to the MAC proposal brainstorming spreadsheet<http://midwestarc.memberclicks.net/message2/link/17421002-5589-4da4-8a12-1e512a07c170/1> and I particularly wanted to draw it to the attention of Ohio archivists. Several times over the last few years, I've referred to the finding aids of judges' papers located at various Ohio repositories, so I know there are archivists who have worked with those collections. It would be great to collaborate with those folks on a MAC session. Here's what I posed in the spreadsheet:
Looking for a chair/moderator and a third presenter to join a proposal about the challenges and opportunities of processing legal and/or judicial collections. Curt Hanson from the University of North Dakota will discuss the roles that technology and other archives played in the processing and re-processing of the papers of a federal circuit court judge, one that’s fully open for research. Anu Kasarabada from the University of Kentucky will talk about processing a large collection of another federal judge’s papers, one that’s only partly open and encompasses a partnership with the university’s law school. Anyone who’s worked with judges’s papers—federal, state, or local—please reach out!
Separately, I'm always looking to connect with people who work with legal/judicial collections, just to learn about their experiences. If you know of people I should talk to, please let me know. Thank you!
Anu
