Inside the Commission
We have a new Chairman! Archivist of the United States Colleen Shogan was sworn in on May 17, 2023. She is the 11th AOTUS since 1934 and the first woman to hold the job. As part of her duties, she also serves as the chairman of the NHPRC.

We awarded $6.5 million in grants to projects in 27 states and the District of Columbia to improve public access to historical records. There are several exciting online editions, a handful of Public Engagement projects, and a full slate of Archival Projects -- from the records of Quaker-run Native American schools to the filmmaker Loni Ding, and we are delighted to be funding the Archives Leadership Institute, and eLaboratories, a new digital platform for historical and scholarly editing practitioners.
