Dear all,

We are excited to announce that registration is now open for the ALAO SCAIG
2025 Annual Workshop, “Preserving the Past, Transforming the Future:
Expanding Access and Representation in Archival Work.” This workshop will
take place on Tuesday, May 20th from 2:00-4:00pm EST on Zoom. A recording
will be made available after the workshop for those who cannot attend live.

This two hour-long event will consist of three presentations. Each
presentation will run about 20-25 minutes followed by a 15-minute Q&A
session. The first presentation will focus on how the Abraham Pollen
Archives of the Massachusetts Eye and Ear was able to uncover the voices of
women and POC physicians and practitioners through a grant. Attendees will
learn not only about the work of the grant, but also take away suggestions
on how to approach this work with a smaller staff and even smaller budget.
The second presentation will discuss how a digital project united records
across geographic and institutional boundaries to uncover stories of local
Black families and communities in the Delmarva peninsula and combat the
whitewashing of history. The presenter will also describe how partnerships
can result in new ideas and renewed energy for the project. Finally, the
third presentation will discuss how the HBCU Radio Preservation Project
works with the radio stations and institutional archives on HBCU campuses
to safeguard and preserve their station legacies for future generations.
The presenter will discuss the history and design of the project and share
its mission to honor and preserve the vibrant history and cultural legacy
of HBCU radio stations.

Joining us as presenters are:

   -

Vanessa Formato, Archivist for the Abraham Pollen Archives of
Massachusetts Eye and Ear in Boston
   -

for Delmarva History and Culture at Salisbury University
