Topic: Volunteers and Student Workers: Opportunities and Best Practices.
We'll discuss best practices, opportunities, ethical concerns, and other pros and cons in utilizing unpaid labor in our institutions.

Presentations:
- Coordinating Volunteers: Best Practices. Megan Sheeran, librarian and volunteer coordinator for the Local History and Genealogy division of the Columbus Metropolitan Library will share best practices, pro tips, and potential pitfalls to keep in mind when working with volunteers. CML volunteer workers include "volunteens," high school student workers, MLIS practicum students, long-term full-time volunteers, corporate volunteer sessions, general public volunteers and more, with challenges and opportunities associated with each type.
- Volunteers at the Ohio History Connection: making a change. Teresa Valencia, volunteer coordinator at the Ohio History Connection will share about how their volunteer program operates, and how that is changing. OHC is launching a new volunteer program this month (January 2025), and Teresa will explain how the new program differs from the previous program, and why they are making changes.
- My perspective: a Q+A. MLIS student and public library volunteer Alex Kunecke will share personal thoughts and experiences regarding unpaid labor in a 1-1 Q+A session.
