Community Archiving is an Enduring Activity<https://www.ohionet.org/event/community-archiving-is-an-enduring-activity>
Webinar on March 6, 2025, 2:00 pm – 3:00 pm | $15.00 (Member) / $45.00 (Non-Member)
In this webinar, Dr. Harrison Apple (they/them) will describe how they used their background as a social-practice artist to bolster community archives preservation. You’ll learn how to make connections across multiple fields and then apply those relationships to solve problems that present themselves in your local information environment.
Drawing on oral history, documentary, archeology, and archival sciences, Apple outlines how their research turned to traditional community engagement and collection methods – quickly realizing they failed to deliver on the needs of their own community. This talk will guide you through a useful critique of some familiar methods for information professionals and strategies to meet our communities at their unique needs. Webinar on Mar 13, 2025, 3:00 pm - 4:00 pm | $15.00 (Member) / $45.00 (Non-Member)
Neuroscience is demonstrating that some of the most challenging behaviors connected with treating trauma are actually biologically based fear responses more related to fear-based dysregulation than intractable behavior. As Maureen Walker reminds, “Strategies for disconnection are an intense yearning for connection in an atmosphere of fear.” When we switch the question from, “What’s wrong with with you?” (uniformed) to “What’s happened to you?” (trauma Informed) and then to “What did you do to survive?” (trauma responsive), we can more clearly see trauma’s effect on brain chemistry, development, and relationships. Authority records are a critical resource in keeping our collections accessible and organized. They underpin our ability to disambiguate between similar names, subjects, and titles in our catalogs and discovery services.
In past sessions, we’ve shown you how to search for authority records. In this webinar, attendees will discuss the two main types of authority files: subject authorities and name authorities. We’ll explore the elements of authority records, as well as methods and timelines for adding or editing shared authority records.
