*OPLIN 4Cast #164: Glogster
*February 10, 2010

/4casting technologies that could have an impact on public libraries./

Glogster <http://www.glogster.com/>is the new way to make online
posters. Will it replace the difficult-to-carry 50 cent poster boards?

Students are using it in the classroom, inserting their own graphics,
sounds and videos. It looks a bit like PowerPoint on steroids, but it's
just one page (not multiple slides) and is reachable by a URL. The glog
can be public or private, and is very customizable. While it may load
slowly at first, once loaded, the components seem to react quickly.

Why this may be important to libraries: As students come in to create
these, they may have some issues composing their glogs. The free, online
editing is a bit clunky. Also, the upload feature will require them to
bring images, sounds, etc. on their flash drives (or they can find them
online).

To demonstrate Glogster, we created this page
<http://bobbigalvin.glogster.com/edit/oplin/> that contains all of the
details and links.

*/Cool fact:/*
It took about 20 minutes for me to add graphics, picture frames, and
e-mail and hyperlinks to this hideous page
<http://bobbigalvin.glogster.com/oplin/>, but it was fairly easy, fast
and free.

The /*OPLIN 4cast*/ is a weekly compilation of recent headlines, topics,
and trends that could impact public libraries. You can subscribe to it
in a variety of ways, such as:
