Howdy!
I have a patron who is trying to recall the title and author of a book =
she has read in the time frame from 1963-1969. This book is a book that =
could be classified as children's or young adult. She also thought that =
this was either a Newberry honor or Caldecott honor. We have searched =
NoveList, but have found a book that matches.
The plot: an old man offers to his heirs a chance to win the exclusive =
inheritance of his huge estate. To be the winner, the heirs had to =
solve a riddle. The solution includes facts from the stock market and =
the Wall Street Journal. A young girl solves the mystery and becomes =
the heir, and develops a close friendship with the old man.=20
The patron describes this as a very wholesome, educational, and gripping =
book.
I leave this "mystery" in your expert hands. Please post to the list, =
and thank you in advance!
